Connecticut mom charged with cruelty against disabled son

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Police say a Connecticut woman whose 11-year-old disabled son weighed only 28 pounds during a medical exam in March has been charged with child cruelty, assault and other crimes.

Twenty-nine-year-old Alison Rosa of East Hartford was arrested Monday and arraigned Tuesday in Manchester Superior Court. She is detained on $350,000 bail.

East Hartford police wrote in an arrest warrant affidavit that Rosa's son has cerebral palsy and other health problems, and Rosa neglected his care needs. Police say Rosa missed more than 50 doctor's appointments for her son over the past several years.

Police say the boy is in state custody and has regained weight.

It's not clear if Rosa has a lawyer. Police said Rosa told them her financial problems contributed to a lack of care for her son.
