City council passes guinea pig sales ban in NYC
NEW YORK - The sale of guinea pigs could soon be illegal in New York City after the City Council passed a bill on Tuesday banning their sale.
The bill would ban the sale of the popular pets at city pet stores but does not prohibit adopting them from local animal shelters and rescue groups.
Animal rights groups had pushed for the bill to be passed due to overpopulation concerns.
The bill now heads to Mayor Adams' desk for his signature.
