Cheesecake Factory to open first NYC location

The popular restaurant chain known for a big menu, big portions and big wait times is finally coming to New York City.

A spokesperson for The Cheesecake Factory confirms to Fox 5 News that it is going to open a location in Queens Center mall in Elmhurst.

Alethea Rowe, the senior director of public relations for the company, says they, "anticipate opening this winter."

The chain got its start in 1972 in Los Angeles as The Cheesecake Factory Bakery where Evelyn Overton sold her cheesecakes.  It is now a NASDAQ listed public company that has seen six straight years of positive same-store sales.

Many of its locations are inside high end malls.  The chain's current closest location to the city is in the Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City.  It has 15 other locations spread across the tristate region.
