Central Park explosion victim seeks answers
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Nearly six months ago, an explosion in Central Park cost a college student part of his leg. Now his father is speaking out, hoping someone will come forward to help solve this mystery.
Connor Golden, 18, was climbing the rocks with friends and enjoying Central Park on Sunday, July 3, 2016. But when he jumped down right onto a bag containing some type of explosive powder, he lost part of his left leg below his knee.
The NYPD said at the time that it was a primitive device with some type of explosive powder and no timer or detonator. Police also say they're devoting all their resources to figuring out who did this and why.
Connor did not let his injury interrupt his education. He returned to the University of Miami for his sophomore year with a prosthetic leg. His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with his medical and rehabilitation expenses. His dad said that he intends to resume all his previous outdoor sports.
The NYPD told Fox 5 that the investigation is active and ongoing, but so far police have not arrested anyone. The Crime Stoppers reward has been increased to $25,000. If you have any information, you can call 800-577-TIPS.
