(FOX 5 NEWS) - Hollywood is taking sides as presidential candidates compete for votes, especially in New York.
Actress Rosario Dawson was on the ground in Harlem campaigning for Bernie Sanders Friday. The native New Yorker was discovered at age 15, sitting on the stoop of her family's Lower East Side squat. She spoke to women of color about the personal reasons she supports sanders education platform.
Dawson is one voice among a chorus of celebrity activists this election season.
Earlier this week Susan Sarandon drew ire from some democrats for an MSNBC interview where she talked about Donald Trump. Actress Debra Messing then interpreted Sarandon's comments as potential support for Trump. On Twitter messing wrote: "the idea that Sudan Sarandon would say that NOT supporting Hillary in a HRC/Trump race is a legitimate choice for Democrats, is insane." after the two actresses hashed it out in this contentious twitter exchange. Sarandon responded: "Alright @DebraMessing report me to the homeroom teacher and let's STOP."
Katy Perry and George Clooney are also using their star power to push Hillary Clinton towards victory.
On the Republican side, Donald Trump's biggest celebrity vote could be from backer Mike Tyson.
