Celebrate National Puppy Day with these adorable puppy facts

LOS ANGELES - Having a “ruff” day? It’s about to get better, because March 23rd is National Puppy Day, and to celebrate, here are some facts about puppies you might not know:

• Puppies don’t fully develop the ability to hear until they’re 4 weeks old, and they don’t develop full vision until they reach 6 weeks.
• Puppies grow really, really fast: newborn puppies double their entire body weight within a week of being born. And in between feedings, they sleep about 90% of the day.
• More than 5 million puppies are born in the United States every year. That’s a lot of puppies, and why it’s so important to have your dogs spayed and neutered. 
• The average dog litter is 5.4 puppies. Among purebreds, Toy Poodles and Pomeranians have the fewest puppies per litter, with just 2.4 puppies, and Rhodesian Ridgebacks have the most puppies, with an average of 8.9 dogs per litter. 
• When a puppy turns one year old, it is then considered to now be a full adult dog. But we never forget those adorable puppy months! Happy National Puppy Day!
