When it comes to music, the record led to the cassette, then the CD and then the iPhone. But while the cassette tape came out in 1962, there's a sudden boom in demand for this antiquated technology that hasn't been popular in years.

Now, even artists like Kanye and Justin Bieber are going back in time, releasing new music on cassettes. Jem Aswad, a senior editor at Billboard magazine, says the trend is not driven by superior sound quality, with record labels and artists "...jumping on a sort of Indie bandwagon."

Yes, it seems everything old is new again.
