NYPD: Video shows possible suspect in murder of 91-year-old man
NEW YORK - A $10,000 reward is being offered in connection with the case of the brutal murder of a 91-year-old man in the Bronx earlier this week, authorities announced.
The NYPD released video and photos from security cameras showing a potential suspect and his truck.
Police said the images show a light-skinned man in 30s with a thin build wearing a reflective traffic safety vest, dark pants with reflective strips, a yellow hard hat, and hard sneakers. The images show a large white four-door flatbed truck with a "Herc Rentals" logo on the door and loaded with orange and white traffic safety drums.
The NYPD believes the man seen in the video is connected to the killing of Nicholas Rappa in his home on Tuesday.
Police officers responded to a 911 call about a robbery inside of a home on Wickham Avenue in Pelham Gardens just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, the NYPD said. Cops found Rappa tied up in the garage with a towel over his head. Rappa, who was unconscious, had suffered head wounds, police said.
EMS personnel responded and pronounced him dead, the NYPD said.
A neighbor said Nappa was a retired construction worker who took care of his 96-year-old wife.
The NYPD said the images were taken from cameras near the scene before the murder.
The combined $10,000 reward includes up to $3,500 payable by CrimeStoppers for information leading to the arrest and indictment of a suspect and $6,500 payable by the NYPD directly upon the arrest and conviction of the killer, authorities said.
