Bronx high school track star headlines 31st Armory Hispanic Games in NYC

The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in Washington Heights welcomed thousands of student-athletes for the 31st Annual Armory Hispanic Games over the weekend.

Among the competitors is standout Bronx athlete Nicholos Sealey, fresh from his impressive 48.58-second victory in the 400-meter dash at the New Balance Championships.

"It started as a way to honor the Hispanic community and heritage in Washington Heights," notes Meet Director Timothy Fulton.

The Armory, recognized as one of the world's fastest indoor tracks, continues attracting top talent nationwide while nurturing local athletes.

"We are considered the fastest track in the world, and we love having our high school students here," Rita Finkel, co-President of the Armory Foundation added.

For Sealey, a senior at Harry S. Truman High School, the Armory represents both a home track and a world-class opportunity.

Despite meeting track legend Usain Bolt, Sealey finds his greatest inspiration closer to home — his mother Valerie.

"She's been through a lot," Sealey said. "So I'm out here to make her proud."

Leading a talented Mustangs squad, Sealey and his teammates came in second in the varsity sprint medley relay in a tight race.

Coach Desiree Moorer, a former track star turned guidance counselor, guides their development both on and off the track.

"I went into counseling wanting to help athletes go to college," Moorer said. "I love it because I feel like I never left."

Coach Moorer adds the squad's success extends beyond athletics, as all team members are on the school's honor roll.
