Boy shot in chest
A boy, 12, was shot in the chest in Bedford-Stuyvesant. He is expected to recover. Police are searching for the gunman.
NEW YORK - A 12-year-old boy who was struck in the chest in a drive-by shooting in Brooklyn is expected to recover.
The shocking incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. Saturday near 171 Malcolm X Boulevard in Bed-Stuy. The gunman opened fire from a passing vehicle, according to cops.
The boy was rushed to Maimonides Hospital in stable condition.
Police are searching for the gunman.
Gun violence is up across New York City. Mayor Bill de Blasio said he won't accept the increase.
"We are going to fight back this challenge," said de Blasio during a briefing from City Hall Monday. "This is a real thing. The gun violence problem went up and that's not acceptable."
