Bill Finger finally gets credit for role in creating Batman

NEW YORK - Bill Finger helped create the Batman comic. More than 40 years after his death, he is finally getting the credit so many fans believe he deserves. He will be getting credit on some modern Batman projects, including "Gotham" and "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice."

At Midtown comics, Batman is one of the top sellers month after month. Now, with "Gotham" on TV and new movies coming to the big screen, the character is hotter than ever, and one of Batman's co-creators is finally getting credit after decades in the shadows.

For many years, fans assumed that the creator of their superhero was Bob Kane. But DC Entertainment announced that Bob Kane's co-creator Bill Finger will get credit in TV and film projects built upon the characters that he created.

For author Marc Tyler Nobleman, who wrote the first biography of Bill Finger, who passed away in 1974, getting the co-creator his credit has become a passionate cause. As for the role that Finger played in the Batman legacy? Nobleman calls him the dominant creator. He says Finger invented the names Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and even Gotham. Noble says Finger's deal and resulting anonymity was not unusual.

But after becoming an active crusader, NOBLEMAN says he is now celebrating this victory on behalf of Finger's legacy. For the die-hard Batman fans, this is a broader victory for the symbolic underdog.
