A bicyclist was struck by a car in the West Village on Wednesday, police said.

It happened around 3:05 p.m. in the vicinity of West 3rd Street and Mercer Street.

Police said the car was headed eastbound on 3rd Street, went in the wrong direction and struck a 44-year-old male bicyclist.

The driver then fled the scene, police said. 

The bicyclist was taken by EMS to Bellevue Hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

The names of the bicyclist and the driver have not been released at this time.
