UWS anti-Semitic graffiti incident under investigation

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating after someone scrawled anti-Semitic graffiti on an Israeli restaurant's outdoor dining shed.

Police say anti-Semitic graffiti was found painted on the outdoor dining shed for Miriam, an Israeli restaurant on the Upper West Side.

The restaurant, named after the owner's mother, opened just a few weeks ago.

"I didn't expect this," said owner Rafael Hasid. "We are kind of doing pretty well here, it's nice and busy. I assume it bothers people that we're succeeding."

According to the NYPD, just one day before the incident on the Upper West Side, the original Miriam location in Park Slope, Brooklyn was burglarized.

Governor Kathy Hochul said she was disgusted by the incident.

"Antisemitism and hate have no home here and we must all do our part to stop it," Hochul tweeted.

Manhattan Borough President also tweeted about the graffiti.

"This disgusting antisemitic graffiti was scrawled there today," Levine said. "We must condemn this hatred everywhere it emerges. We can't accept this as normal."

Miriam just opened last month.

The NYPD is investigating the incident as a bias crime. So far, no arrests have been made.
