Airline employee killed after luggage vehicle flips, pins worker at CLT Airport
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - An airline employee died Sunday following a single-ramp vehicle accident at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, officials said.
Emergency and medical crews responded around 10:20 a.m. on Monday and transported the driver to the hospital where he later died.
According to the North Carolina Department of Labor, the driver was operating a tug transporting baggage when the vehicle flipped and pinned him underneath.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee's family and co-workers," a spokesperson with CLT Airport said on Monday. "The Airport is working closely with its airline partner and are assisting, as needed."
Police say the victim was 24-year-old Kendrick Darrell Hudson.
"We are extremely grateful for the quick response of our emergency crews and law enforcement officers and for the medical assistance and care they provided to the airline employee," CLT Airport authorities said.
This tragic accident remains under investigation by CMPD. Fatality investigations typically take three to four months to complete, but depending on the complexity of the case, it could take longer. The OSH Division has up to six months to complete its investigation before the statute of limitations kicks in, officials said.
OSHA is also conducting a separate investigation of the incident.
