700 dogs removed from Georgia breeder's property

The Atlanta Humane Society has taken in 10 dogs rescued from a breeder in South Georgia this week.

According to the nonprofit USA Rescue Team, the organization was called on Thursday afternoon to lead the rescue of "one of Georgia's biggest breeding shut-down."

The dogs were living in horrific condition in cages before the rescue, the Atlanta Humane Society said.

"These dogs have been living in crates their whole lives- one tiny crate stacked on top of another," The Atlanta Humane Society said on Facebook. "They’re matted, covered in feces and have never been held or walked."

In total, officials estimated up to 700 dogs were on the property.

The Humane Society of Valdosta brought 10 dogs from the property to the Atlanta Humane Society Saturday morning. They're hoping to help the dogs recover and find them forever homes.

"This is a truly great effort between many animal welfare organizations, and we're happy to be able to be of assistance to these dogs and find them loving homes here in Atlanta," a spokesperson for the Atlanta Humane Society told FOX 5.
