A 62-year-old Warren man was arrested Friday for impersonating an FBI agent.
Kevin Ladon Balfour was taken into custody on a federal warrant in connection with his "knowingly and intentionally impersonating an FBI agent."
In 2010 federal authorities say that Balfour was arrested for the same thing. Balfour carried a gun and badge and would tell his victims that he could make their traffic tickets or other legal matters go away for a fee.
Investigators say he wore a silver badge on his belt, carried handcuffs had a 9 mm pistol on his belt. One victim told investigators he asked for $500 to clear his criminal history.
Special agent in Charge David Gelios of the FBI's Detroit Division said that Balfour has a lengthy criminal history and pled guilty and was sentenced to three years in federal prison.
After completing his work release program in 2014, the FBI received information that Balfour has once again allegedly been posing as an FBI agent, carrying a firearm, and using that identity to defraud people, Gelios said in a release.
Balfour's criminal record includes arrests in Illinois for numerous charges including armed robbery, theft, aggravated assault, battery, forgery and unlawful impersonation of a peace officers. He was also arrested by the United States Secret Service for possession of stolen treasury checks.
In 2010 investigators found numerous law enforcement badges including a realistic FBI badge and numerous guns and ammunition.
Balfour was in court Friday and will be held until Monday for a detention hearing to decide whether he will be held or released on bond.
Anyone with information about other potential victims or scams that he may be responsible for are asked to call the FBI Macomb County Resident Agency at (586) 412-4844.
