NEW YORK (AP) - Two new sections of Brooklyn Bridge Park along the East River are poised to open next month.
The 1.3-mile park is built on a series of piers.
According to The New York Times, the new sections are at opposite ends of the park.
At one end is the Pier 6 meadow offering space for passive use. It features new lawns and flowering gardens.
At the other end is a new area of riverfront paths with views of the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges.
This area also will house an annex of the Brooklyn Children's Museum, an Environmental Education Center and dog run. Nearer the Brooklyn Bridge, the Empire Stores retail and office complex is under construction in a former coffee warehouse.
