NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Ackquille Pollard, better known As Bobby Shmurda, was starting to taste success with his "Hot Boy" hit. But in December 2014, he and 14 other alleged members of a gang called GS9, or G Stone Crips, a street crew based in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, were indicted on murder conspiracy and other charges.
Alex "A-Rod" Crandon and Rashad "Rasha" Derissant have now been found guilty of second-degree murder and other felonies.
"The jurors in this trial heard evidence describing a cold blooded murder, wild gunplay and a terrifying disregard for the safety of innocent bystanders as the defendants tried to vilently settle scores with rivals in New York City and beyond," said Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan.
Shmurda's attorney, Alex Spiro, says the verdict has no bearing on Shmurda's upcoming case.
Shmurda was charged with murder conspiracy, not the actual shooting of a gang rival. But he was caught up in the raids that netted 21 guns.
Fox News legal analyst Arthur Aidala says the first trial may end up helping Shmurda's defense because his lawyers have now seen aspects of the prosecution's case.
Shmurda remains behind bars on $2 million bail. His trial is scheduled to begin on May 11. Police and prosecutors are out to prove that besides making music, the rapper was causing mayhem with the violent street gang. His attorney says Shmurda maintains his innocence and has pleaded not guilty.
