CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Two people were transported to the hospital after a CMS school bus crashed into a building just north of uptown Charlotte Thursday morning. So far, all injuries are reported to be minor, CMS said.
The crash happened at 8:27 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in the 2600 block of Statesville Avenue. CMS said 15 students and a driver were on board.
CMS bus #509 was en route to Ranson Middle School when for unknown reasons the school bus went off the roadway and crashed into a building. Early reports indicate the school bus was attempting to avoid another vehicle before the wreck. Witnesses told FOX 46 Charlotte they observed multiple students running and getting off the school bus shortly after the crash.
CMPD, the CMS Police Department and district staff responded quickly to help ensure students and staff involved receive care. Families of students on board bus #509 were notified, advised of no injuries and arrangements were made for safe transportation home or to school, CMS said.
CMPD is investigating the cause of this wreck and will review events leading up to the accident.
