'His life was snuffed out' BK mom pleads for justice after teen son shot, killed

A vigil was held Wednesday night for 15-year-old Heath Campbell, a high school sophomore whose life was cut short by gun violence in Brooklyn.

Heath's mother pleads for justice

What they're saying:

Family, friends, and anti-gun violence advocates gathered to support Heath’s grieving mother, Joy Smith, who was pleading for justice.

"Anybody know anything, please speak up. Don’t be afraid to speak up," Heath's mom, Joy Smith, said.

As for Heath, his Uncle calls the pain of his loss unnatural.

"No parent should have to bury their child. A bud, not even a full flower, 15-years-old and his life was snuffed out," Heath's uncle Lonzo Smith said.

Heath passed away days before his older brother's 18th birthday.

"He was probably just an annoying little brother. My other son didn’t want to come down. He, I guess, couldn’t collect the words," Joy Smith said.

When did the shooting happen?

What we know:

Police say that Campbell was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the lobby of a building on East 93rd Street in East Flatbush at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Campbell was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 16-year-old boy was found on the building's third floor with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He is listed in stable condition.

No arrests were made.

What we don't know:

Police have not released the name of the 16-year-old boy.
