NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - NASA, which studies astronomy not astrology, has revealed that a 13th constellation exists. That constellation, for some astrologers, means a new addition to the zodiac.
According to NASA, ancient Babylonians knew of a 13th constellation but found that it didn't fit into their 12-piece constellation map. They ignored the fact that the sun actually moves through 13 constellations, not 12.
As a result, they removed the constellation known as Ophiuchus.
"When the Babylonians first invented the 12 signs of zodiac, a birthday between about July 23 and August 22 meant being born under the constellation Leo. Now, 3,000 years later, the sky has shifted because Earth’s axis (North Pole) doesn’t point in quite the same direction," according to NASA.gov.
The space agency has taken to social media to point out that contrary to stories circulating online, it has not changed any zodiac signs.
"We just did the math," said Dwayne Brown, NASA Spokesperson.
But for those who look to astrology to determine the kind of day they're going to have or what type of personality best describes them, some things may have changed.
Your sign may no longer be Aquarius, for example.
It all depends on the type of zodiac you follow.
Westerners -who mostly follow the tropical zodiac- would not see a change to their sign, but followers of the sidereal zodiac, mainly followed in the East, would.
The potential of a life-changing moment for some has social media buzzing.
Many have posted angry comments about the change.
