Subway surfing kills 1 teen, injures another

One 14-year-old was killed and another was seriously injured after a subway surfing mishap in Brooklyn on Thursday afternoon. New York City officials are once again warning residents not to take part in the dangerous activity that has been popularized on social media.

One teenager has died and another was injured after a subway surfing mishap in Brooklyn on Thursday.

"It could be any one of our kids," said Robert Camacho, Chair of the Community Board in the Bushwick area.

The incident apparently happened inside the Bushwick Avenue L train station.

Detectives believe the boys started at the Broadway Junction stop, and at some point, the train headed into a tunnel. Police think they made contact with that tunnel.

Police say 14-year-old Brian Crespo was pronounced dead at the scene. The other teen was taken to the Cohen Children's Medical Center in serious condition.

"Our preliminary investigation reveals both of these males entered the subway station and began subway surfing," said the NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper.
