Woman struck and killed by delivery truck
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A 27-year-old woman crossing the street in Manhattan Friday morning was struck and killed by a delivery truck.
The tragedy occurred at about 5:50 a.m. at East 37th St. and Third Ave. in the Murray Hill section of the borough.
Sarah Foster of East 36th St. in Manhattan was attempting to cross East 37th St. when she was struck by the truck as it made a turn westbound from Third Ave.
Emergency crews responded to a 911 call about a woman lying on the street. They pronounced her dead on the scene.
The driver, Steven McDermott, 51, of Brooklyn, remained on the scene, according to police. Initially, cops said no criminality was suspected but McDermott was later arrested and charged for failing to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
