Video: Man sprays water on NYPD traffic agents

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - The New York City Police Department has released video showing yet another water dousing incident involving police employees.

Video from a security camera shows a man spraying water from a bottle onto two uniformed traffic enforcement agents in Queens. The man appears to be holding a mobile phone in one hand and may have been shooting video of his own stunt.

This happened at 86th Street and Jamaica Avenue at 2:34 p.m. on July 24, 2019, the NYPD said. No one was hurt but the man got away.

The police are asking for anyone who may recognize the man seen in the video to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-8477 or www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.

At least four similar recorded water-attacks have surfaced across the city.

The others were done by groups of people, outnumbering the cops on duty.

One clip even showed a soaked cop getting struck in the back of his head with an empty red plastic bucket.

Police made several arrests in connection to the earlier incidents in Manhattan and the Bronx.

All were charged with misdemeanors, but two Republican lawmakers say those charges should be upgraded.

Assemblymen Mike LiPetri from Long Island and Michael Reilly from Staten Island are proposing new legislation which would make throwing or spraying water, or any substance, at an on-duty officer a Class E felony.

The charge would be punishable by up to four years in prison.
