Vehicular traffic nightmare at LaGuardia Airport
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Travelers have taken to walking and running across the Grand Central Parkway, in some cases, to get out of traffic at LaGuardia Airport and to make flights.
Mondays and Fridays tend to be the worst days.
The increased traffic congestion is the result of renovations underway at the airport in Queens.
Mass transit is the best option to avoid traffic delays.
Travelers can take the M60 bus to LGA. You can also take the No. 7 subway to 74 St-Broadway and then transfer to the Q70 Limited bus to the airport.
The Transportation Security Administration is urging travelers to plan to get to the airport earlier than unusal.
"TSA recommends that travelers with flights out of LaGuardia Airport plan to arrive a minimum of 2 to 2 ½ hours prior to their scheduled departure to allow enough time for traffic, parking, check-in, baggage check and security checkpoint processing," the TSA said in a statement. "TSA will not compromise security if individuals are showing up late to the checkpoint."
