Study: Being too handsome can hurt a man's career
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - If you're a man and you're viewed as the "office hottie" or "handsome hunk," your career ambitions could be taking a hit, a new study suggests.
A man's good looks could affect his success, according to researchers at the University College London's School of Management and the University of Maryland.
Four experiments in offices showed that male bosses see handsome men as a threat and are less likely to promote them.
When men hired other men to work with them, attractiveness was factored into the hiring decisions. But a woman's attractiveness did not keep her from advancing.
Companies should use neutral, outside recruitment firms to get the best workers, the study recommends.
