Publicolor: Helping children through art and design

NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - Some students don't respond well to traditional textbook teaching. That is where an organization called Publicolor comes in. It connects with students through art and design.

Publicolor has been brightening up the community and changing lives for more than 20 years. Its gateway program Paint Club aims to improve education in youth by promoting an imaginative use of color in school buildings. It's easy to understand see why students get involved.

The New York City-based nonprofit strives to help low-income students who are at high risk of dropping out of school. Last year, 96 percent of the organization's students graduated on time versus 66 percent of their peers. The long-term, intensive curriculums offered not only encourage community involvement, but also academic achievement, college prep, and job readiness.

Money raised at an auction on Monday evening will go directly to scholarships for Publicolor students. Money raised at the gala will also benefit operations, allowing continued transformation of our city's schools and under-resourced community sites. The excitement surrounding this special night is obvious.
