NYC youth swim team raises money to fix pool in Puerto Rico

After Hurricane Maria tore through Puerto Rico, the Manhattan Youth Tritons swim team wanted to help. So last December, dozens of their young athletes made a big fundraising splash during their swimathon.

Head Coach Jen Prince said giving back was an easy decision for her team. They wanted to give back to people the same way people gave back to them when Superstorm Sandy destroyed their pool at the TriBeCa youth center.

The $17,000 and counting raised by the youth team through a GoFundMe Page helped Club De Natacion in Caguas, Puerto Rico, repair its own pool and bleachers. But most importantly, it allowed their swimmers to get back to what they love.

The Tritons said they are proud of their fundraising and are happy they could share a bond with youth in Puerto Rico and help them out.

And as a tribute to their new friends in Manhattan, the swim team from Club de Nataction in Caguas will wear uniforms with the Tritons team logo when they compete in a championship meet at their repaired pool this March.
