Ride-hailing app inDriver lets you bid on a cab

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - For those of you who take Lyft and Uber often, you know that on a rainy or snowy day prices can be astronomical. The more demand there is, the more you have to dig into your pocket. But starting this week, a new ride-hailing app is in town that says goodbye to surcharges.

inDriver kind of like Priceline for taxis. You enter your pick up and drop off locations and the price you want to pay. Then nearby drivers can accept your bid or suggest a higher rate.

inDriver is meant for medium- to long-distance rides, like going from the outer boroughs into Manhattan or getting to the airport. Passengers have to place orders of at least $15.

To be clear, there is no surcharging with this app but it does suggest a price depending on what other apps are charging at that moment.

inDriver operates in 11 countries. The company says it has about 5,000 drivers in New York at the moment.

Right now you can only request a ride if your pickup location is in the five boroughs, Westchester County, Nassau County or Newark Airport. That area will expand as more drivers and users hop on board.
