Beaver attacks swimmers in Connecticut
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Environmental officials in Connecticut are warning swimmers and boaters to stay out of part of the Quinebaug River after two people were injured in an apparent beaver attack.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says a man and a woman from Danielson were bitten by an animal that appeared to be a beaver shortly before 7 p.m. Monday while swimming near the Route 101 bridge near the Killingly and Pomfret border.
The 20-year-old man and 19-year-old woman received stitches at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. Police haven't released their names.
DEEP's Environmental Conservation Police say officials saw a beaver near the same bridge on Tuesday exhibiting aggressive behavior. They were unable to capture the animal.
Officials say a beaver den is located south of where the incident occurred.
