Elderly man beaten, robbed inside Manhattan bank

The search is on for the man who punched an 87-year-old man in the head during a robbery inside of a CitiBank in Manhattan, said police.

An 87-year-old man was in critical condition Tuesday after he was brutally attacked during a robbery inside of a CitiBank in Manhattan.

The NYPD says it happened at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.  The victim was inside the branch at 2560 Broadway on the Upper West Side when he was approached from behind by a man.  The attacker stole his money after punching him in the head. It's unclear how much money the attacker took.

The elderly man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.  His condition was described as extremely critical.

The assailant ran away after the attack.  He is described by police as black, 45-50 years old, approximately 5'9" tall and weighing about 150 lbs. He was wearing a dark top with a white shirt underneath, dark pants, a blue cap, large headphones and was carrying an umbrella.

Two photos of the suspect were released by police.
