Doorbell DNA leads deputies to accused burglar
EDGEWATER. Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office say Jason Braun had gloves on when he allegedly broke into an Edgewater home on Old Mission Road, but he put them on a little too late, they say.
Before he busted through a back window, deputies say he pushed the doorbell with his bare hands.
An 81-year-old man inside the home grabbed his gun and fired several shots at Braun. Deputies say Braun ran away.
When deputies showed up, they swabbed the doorbell and sent it to a crime lab. Deputies say Braun's DNA was all over the doorbell.
It turns out, when investigators connected the dots, Braun was already locked up for a similar crime in the Volusia County Jail.
