NYPD probes Brooklyn restaurant hammer attack as a hate crime
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - All three victims have died from a hammer attack at a Chinese restaurant in Brooklyn. Now the NYPD is investigating it as a possible hate crime against Asians.
Arthur Martunovich, 34, walked into the Seaport Buffet in Sheepshead Bay on Jan. 15 armed with a hammer and attacked the restaurant owner, a manager, and a chef, police said.
Martunovich then fled but police officers soon caught him nearby.
All three victims were taken to Lutheran Hospital, where Fufai Pun, 34, the chef, died that day.
The 60-year-old owner died a few days later.
Tsz Pun, 50, the manager, died Jan. 24, according to the NYPD.
Authorities charged Martunovich of Brooklyn, with murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Martunovich, who is white, told cops that he watched a movie in which Asian men treated women poorly and that motivated his attack, according to authorities, the AP reported.
