9/11 Memorial will pay tribute to sickened workers

NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - The National September 11 Memorial & Museum unveiled designs for the dedicated space at the memorial that will recognize people who are suffering from or died from exposure to World Trade Center toxins.

The design includes a pathway that will be part of the grassy area called the memorial glade. It will be located on the southwest side of the plaza, just west of the survivor tree.

"I imagined a new path through this glade a path flanked by these big stone elements that seem them to point up and out of the earth," said Michael Arad, the memorial's designer. "Sort of a forceful response to the violence that came here and these stone elements conveying the character of the people who came here."

The stones will display text and will also include steel form the original World Trade Center that visitors will be allowed to touch.

For rescue and recovery workers this has been a long time coming. They say honoring the strength and determination of those who are sick or have died is part of the 9/11 story.

Former "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart is one of the most vocal supporters of the men and women who have gotten sick.
