Reputed mobster gunned down at McDonald's

Police are investigating the shooting death of 71-year-old man at a McDonald's drive-thru in the Bronx.

Police say Sylvester Zottola, of the Bronx, was found inside his maroon Acura SUV riddled with gunshots just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

It happened at 1625 Webster Avenue. By the time the NYPD got there, Zottola was unconscious and unresponsive.  EMS responded and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Zottola was a reputed associate of New York's Bonanno crime family.  It appears that his killing was a mafia assassination.  He was shot in the head at close range and several other times in his torso.

The killing comes after months of attacks on him and his son.

His 41-year-old son, Salvatore Zottola, survived a shooting in July when a car pulled up to his Bronx home and a gunman jumped out and shot multiple times in the street.  The shooting was captured on video.  He survived but the gunman has yet to be caught.
